Photochemical dimerization of ferulic Acid by chloroplasts from sorghum.
نویسندگان
چکیده
Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor) chloroplasts, lamellar fragments, and Triton X-100 solubilized preparations catalyze a blue and red light-sensitized oxidation of ferulic acid to its beta-beta-linked dimer and its hydrolysis product, the acid dimer. Exogenous superoxide dismutase had no effect, and catalase and 1 to 10 mm KCN inhibited this photooxidative dimerization only in detergent-treated chloroplasts. It is postulated that the final oxidant is H(2)O(2), formed by light-induced photosystem I electron transport, followed by an unidentified peroxidatic activity. The reaction differs, however, from that catalyzed by horseradish peroxidase in the presence of H(2)O(2).

Contribution and Interactions of Hydroxycinnamic Acids Found in Bran and Wholegrain Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L. Moench): Effects on the Antioxidant Capacity and Inhibition of Human Erythrocyte Hemolysis
An imbalance between free radicals and antioxidants is known as oxidative stress, and it promotes cellular aging and the development of chronic noncommunicable diseases. The bioactive compounds present in food play an important role in preventing oxidative stress. The aim of this study was to determine the contributions and interactions of the hydroxycinnamic acids found in the bran and whole g...
متن کاملB-Glucans in the Caryopsis of Sorghum Bicolor (L.) Moench
Fluorescence microscopy was used to determine the l ocation of Bglucans in sorghum. Sections from three genetically different sorghum cultivars were st ained with Calcofluor or Congo Red , fluorochromes which have been reported to react with 13-glucans. Autofluorescence, indicative of ferulic acid in other cereals, was observed in untreated sections. When stained sections were treated with endo...
متن کاملGrowth temperature and genotype both play important roles in sorghum grain phenolic composition
Polyphenols in sorghum grains are a source of dietary antioxidants. Polyphenols in six diverse sorghum genotypes grown under two day/night temperature regimes of optimal temperature (OT, 32/21 °C and high temperature (HT, 38/21 °C) were investigated. A total of 23 phenolic compounds were positively or tentatively identified by HPLC-DAD-ESIMS. Compared with other pigmented types, the phenolic pr...

Background and Objective: Ferulic acid is a polyphenolic compound derived from some fruit and different cereals. Previous studies have shown that this compound has antioxidant, anti-apoptosis, and differentiation properties in the nervous system. متن کاملProtective effect of ferulic acid on ionizing radiation induced damage in bovine serum albumin
Background: Ionizing radiation causes deleterious effects on living system mainly due to oxidative damages of macromolecules and protein is the major target due to its abundance. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of ionizing radiation induced changes in the molecular properties of bovine serum albumin (BSA) its secondary and tertiary structures, degradation, cross linking and...
